I think it is excellent, though the first series lets it down a little due to BBC Radio policy reducing the core members of the cast - luckily later this was revoked - and the sad death of Jimmy Beck while recording was in process meaning a poor substitute was used in that series.
However the latter series's with Larry Martyn as Walker are superb. And some of the variatiosn to the original stories are also neat. I particularly enjoy A Jumbo Sized problem which is almost a whole new episode.
I'm a bit late to this thread but have been working through the radio episodes, broadly in order. I have to agree that Larry Martyn did a superb job as Walker and that was one of the reasons I looked for a forum - to see if anyone agreed. It's a testament to the series that it is still so entertaining to this day either as a TV programme or Radio play.
And now you must excuse me. I need to have my nap.
