David Griffin is 67 and still alive, according to IMDb.
Apart from Onslow who gave the occasional giggle, I never found Keeping Up Appearances remotely funny. A tragicly poor comedy in my opinion with tedious characters and poor over-acting. Why do these really annoying comedies like this, Absolutely Fabulous, and Waiting For God ever catch on. They are trashy.
Keeping Up Appearances is very, very silly, totally predictable, utterly implausible and I love it ;D I think Patricia Routledge is just superb in this and for me, there are lots of likeable characters.
Yes she and her co-star have been so believable in their roles . Esp .the actor who plays her husband. ! I forget his name at the moment. BUt he said once in an interveiw that he is NOT like his character at all. HE says when he meets anyone they talk tohim as though he is that slow moving, hen pecked husband. that is so cute.!
It was Patricia Routledge who decided she had done all she could with the character who called a halt to it, I did read that it was very popular in the USA, they did try to make their own version , but the original won the public support, the writer Roy Clarke has a totally different approach to most others, he just sends the scripts to the producer and takes no part in the casting or prodution at all, still it seems to work.
I guess it could be the likes of the BBC earn more from individuals buying their DVD's in the thousands than one broadcaster buying the rights to screen it too, so they may be restricting the repeating of old shows to make more money. Not certain of that, it's just a theory.
David, I know that post was from two years ago, but in case you don't know, they are playing the complete allo allo (minus Xmas specials) on UKTV. They are up to series 5, episode 3 or 4 and it airs at 5 30 am and 6 05 pm week days.
