Something I got to think about in relation to the ”Showing up of Cpl Jones”-thread. I wonder what the real HG did if they had one or two old campaigners who wanted to do their bit when Anthony Eden made his speech? It is very well shown in DA I think, after the radio announcement the men could have walked across the English Channel, for the chance of getting into the mix!
If you were a HG commander and you had an old veteran, who was ”keen as mustard”, but not really fit to fight...? What would they do? Keep him in a ”safe” position or just brutally send him home?
Considering the situation in the Summer of 1940...I mean it must have been ”all hands on deck”, every hand that could hold a rifle, a spade, a carving knife or an assegaj must have been needed.

In the cold light of day, I think I would involve him but I wouldn't make him third in command! Perhaps I'd give him a responsibility that would make him feel important but wasn't a vital role (such as keeping attendance records or something like that).
Good idea for a thread!

True, maybe a bit like Godfrey as a medic, perhaps! Maybe the answer to this question was right in front of my eyes!🙄👍
Of course if ”the balloon went up” or if ”Adolf would kick off”(as the good Cpt likes to put it) - a medic was no small task!
