I'm hoping someone can help me. Now, I'm not sure if I'm going potty or not, but I seem remember an episode of Dad's Army where Pike is wearing a Davey Crocket type hat on his head after returning from somewhere and Capt. Mainwaring asks him why and Pike replies something along the lines of "I asked him and he said wear the fox hat!" I seem to remember watching it with my dad and he was in hysterics but it went over my head at the time.
First off, apologies for moving this thread to the correct area and not leaving a redirect in the area in which you posted it. I neglected to click a checkbox and only just realised my error.
I do have a vague memory of something about a Davy Crockett hat. The episode Museum Piece springs to mind, though undoubtedly someone with a better memory than mine will step into the breach and assist!
The closest I come to think of is in the 2016 film where Pike during a camoflage exercise is dressed up as an American indian chief, with a headdress an all. And he sometimes refers to Western movies when he wants to make a point, like in ”My British Buddy”. There he compares the arrival of US troops to the cavalry coming the besieged settlers to the rescue.
Maybe it is in some special show or commercial?
”By Jove, that’s the sort of talk I like to hear!”
Must be Mrs Fox's hat! The line is one of those lines you say fast to make it sound like your swearing. Probably been used in some comedy series though I don't remember the line in a Dad's Army episode. It would be the sort of comment Walker would make.
