I've just watched Battle Of The Giants which is my favourite episode of them all, and has been repeated at least twice this Christmas.
It's always interesting (to me at least) to see which edit you're going to get.
The original edit - This is what's normally broadcast on BBC1 and/or BBC2 - 1 hour special.
The shortened version - Numerous bits cut out from the first half of the episode, to get it to fit into a shorter time slot. I haven't seen this version used since the 90's.
The extended version - This is what's normally broadcast on Gold. Only been used for the last few years, and includes a small number of "deleted scenes" not included in the original edit, for example the rouse with the sheep just before the confrontation of the two vans on the bridge. It's this version you get on the DVDs also.
As a child I watched this back so many times that this was one of a small number of episodes for which I was able to recite the entire script word for word. We had it recorded on a Betamax cassette, that contained Battle Of The Giants, immediately followed by the 1971 movie.
This episode is almost a tangible part of my childhood (What's tangible mean Jonesey?), and because of that I'm left with a strange kind of feel-good factor every time I watch it.
