Is it just me or does John sound like he may have had a few before the interview ?.

Um, no he definitely won't have, he was forced to give up drinking in 1977 when he had his near death experience with liver disease. In this 1978 interview he has recovered a bit from that, not nearly so gaunt and ill looking, but he seems a bit frail still. He went back to drinking occasionally much later.

I came across this youtube site of Hattie Jacques. It has interviews with john and her son Robin with Clive DUNN and lovely old clips of them together, their wedding pic and others...lovely I laughed at her sister in law's mimicking John LeMesurier. So like him in DA too

Regarding the clip above, I don´t think he´s had a few I just think that, that was his style, his personality if you will.

Thanks for that photo Grace, I am pretty sure that 'reunion' photo was taken at Arthur Lowe's memorial service.

Watched a preview disc of the remastered original School for scoundrels (released in 1960) last week starring Ian Carmichael, Terry Thomas and Alistair Sim. Of course it also features a great cameo scene from John Le Mesurier as an awkward head waiter and another scene featuring his then wife Hattie Jacques. A true British comedy classic there are also some extras discussing the films creation and the original trailer. Its out in October on DVD and Blu Ray - Full information here: www.studiocanal.co.uk/Film/Details/65e14d9f-165f-4433-81fc-9e8600322997

It is interesting, John Le Mesurier has been portrayed by many other actors over the years.
"Screen One" - Hancock (1991) TV episode, Played by Malcolm Sinclair
Goodnight Sweetheart (1995) TV Episode "Don't Get Around Much Any More (as Wilson), Played by Terence Hardiman
Hancock & Joan (2008) (TV) Played by Alex Jennings
Hattie (2011) (TV) Played by Robert Bathurst
Dear Arthur, Love John (BBC Radio 4) Played by Anton Lesser
And the upcoming We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story (2015) (TV) Played by Julian Sands
And the upcoming film Dad's Army (2016) (as Wilson) played by Bill Nighy
I wonder if there are any others?

Those that have stood out for me have been Anton Lesser and Robert Bathurst, although Alistair McGowan is the best on an impersonation. I also saw Alistair do his impersonation live a few weeks back in Cardiff - fantastic!

Here's some rare video from Pathe News called Children's art for charity showing stars admiring artwork of them done by their children. The video is silent but has a nice clip of John Le Mesurier and Hattie Jacques with one of their sons...
