In these times you get some spare time here and there and the vacation plans for the summer doesn’t look too extravagant due to restrictions and what one could call personal common sense.😊 So I for one have set out to try some food from DA - today you can find many recipes online. I have always wanted to try to make an upside- down cake, but I am not much of a baker so I haven’t pulled myself together.
But: Potatoe wine!!! Here is something that I understand that at the same time requires a minimum effort. The brew that Mrs Prentice serves carries quite a punch, it seems, and I am not sure I can produce the same result. But I will give it a try and will report in - do as the officer says - nice ranks - as soon as I have something.

Hahaha. I thought when you started to talk about your vacation plans that you were going to use three days holiday to help with the harvest.

By the way, the scene where Jones is re-telling the story of Godfrey’s amorous adventures is totally hilarious! So so well made. The annoyed Captain, Wilson as the secretary who can’t keep up, Jones’s ramblings from the Boer War and onwards and poor Pte Godfrey’s distressed look at the sideline! Pure genious!
My absolute favourite is when the Sgt says something like : ”Excuse me, what was that?!!” And Mainwaring sneers: ”Dandy!!! Daaandy!!!”

I have now finished the first tasting of my potatoe wine. I got a bit impatient, there are a lot of different recipes out there - some of them dictates that it should rest/ferment for a few weeks but others say at least six months.
Well, I took a middle way and I have to say, it is ”not half bad ”, as Pike would have said. Not the kick that Mrs Prentice’s carried I think, but it is getting along pretty good.
I am quite proud of my ”Chateau de Spud”. Or maybe I should call it ”Gran Reserva King Edward”?

I was going through some old slides that had come into my possession and digitising them for posterity. I came across slides of a visit I made to Bressingham in 1983. As you see from the picture Bertha and the Threshing machine in action.

Did you also hear it go - like Cpl Jones said - ”chibber chib chibber chibb chibber - puff puff puff puff puuuff!” 😊

Back in 1983 I didn't realise the significance of it. Shameful I know

That is neat. And don't feel ashamed, it was not till the late 1990's and into the early 2000's that the connection between the series and the museum started to be properly highlighted. And that was mainly thanks to the Dad's Army Appreciation Society.

I am falling in this topic after it has been quiet for some time, excuse me but was curious when I saw this what Dave said:
"Yes, I mentioned the home movie footage above. Although there's also home movie footage of them making The Big Parade and Big Guns I think it was too. And the stage show."
Since I feel this is one of the best episodes and you can feel the great atmosphere even from pictures I am wondering if this home movie footage is available somewhere? I found quite some pictures of the cast relaxing at the set but only a tiny bit of footage. Would love to see more! Thank you!

The footage is held by the DAAS in the UK, I believe. I think some of it has also appeared in one or two documentaries, but I could not say which ones.

Now you are a member of DAAS, Mariska, it is possible for you to borrow the home movie footage from the Video Library.
Login to the members' area at the DAAS website and it's the top link on the page that comes up.

Alan, that is correct but perhaps its because I'm blonde but I cannot login? Have not received a reply from DAAS with login details?

Have you received a copy of the latest newsletter, Mariska? They ask you for a password which is a particular word on a page of the newsletter. It gets changed as soon as a new newsletter is issued.
Currently it's the last word that appears on page 22 of the December issue... which I haven't yet received.

Absolutely, I received my package just before Christmas and it's just great. Now I feel more "offical" a part of the Dads Army family
