Broadcast between September & December 1970, 13 episodes of high class quality situation comedy. Give it a little thought and pick your favourite episode. Good luck.

The Test for me pure quality episode from start to finish, Jonesy as the wicket keeper and Mainwaring when Walker points out Wilson's score of 81 not out saying he has had a few lucky escapes in his innings is hilarious. Freddie Truman just adds to this episode for me. Godfrey running between the wickets is comedy gold, and his winning 6 hit is just awesome. Was a tight choice between The Test and TAHF for me but the Test just pips it.

This is such a difficult choice as in my opinion this is one of the all time best seasons of the whole TV series.
It's interesting how by this time in the series a lot of the episodes didn't really need to have anything directly to do with the Home Guard as such, and often dealt more with the rivalry between the platoon and the ARP (The Big Parade, Uninvited Guests, The Test), or the relationships between the platoon members including the class struggles (A Wilson (Manager)?) or Mainwaring's own leadership struggles (Boot's Boot's Boot's, Fallen Idol).
There are good measures of the platoon's teamwork to overcome problems (Don't Forget The Diver, SGT Save My Boy, Don't Fence Me In, Absent Friends and Put That Light Out)
There are also a fewnew characters introduced whi throw a spanner in the works for various platoon members (The Two And A Half Feathers, Mum's Army).
Overall a great series!

Most of these are the best but I chose Mum's Army as we see a totally different side of Mainwaring that shows in the most difficult of times he was capable of a loving relationship.

A Wilson Manager? without any shadow of doubt. The beginning when Mainwaring is bombarded with phone calls, 'don't tell me he's been made Archbishop of Canterbury?' and 'oh he'll be alright, the devil looks after his own' are FANTASTIC. When Wilson is walking over the rubble of his bank and knocking his door sign over gets me every time.

An excellent series with a lot of top quality episodes to choose from!
'Fallen Idol' stands out for me. Arthur Lowe is brilliant at playing a drunk (as he proves again in 'My Brother and I'.) The part where Mainwaring tries to be made a Cardinal is one the funniest moments in the whole of Dad's Army!

I would have to say "Put That Light Out" simply for Frazer's story about the slithery thing and the very poignant moment when Godfrey is making the animal shadow things in the light and he does not know Mainwaring is about to fire.

all of them are good but i do like Don't Forget the Diveri like Frazer's story on pearl diving in the southern seas, the bit where they are practicing using the plan to use a diving suit and Jones in the log is really funny " Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle, gurgle", " thats the water flowing past"

Ah so many good episodes, but I chose Boots, boots, boots because I just love the two scenes in the shoe shop they're so much fun to watch.
It's interesting how there is no leader yet on the poll, we're all split on our favourite, lol.
